On Whale Meat Prepared For Children

An excellent website, unfortunately available only in Norwegian language, contains a very wide selection of recipes for meals based on whale meat. One section is especially focussed on dishes deemed suitable for children and as a public service one of the more attractive sounding options is hereby offered in translation:

Whale Meat in the form of Legless Birds

Sautéed whale meat with bacon, sour cream and allspice
This is what you’ll need: Approximately 600 grammes whale meat in thin slices
1 teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon allspice
4 slices bacon
3 table spoons wheat flour (plain)
2 table spoons butter or margarine
2-3 cups plain stock
1 decilitre sour cream

And this is what you do:

1) Cut the bacon in as many pieces as there are slices of whale meat
2) Mix the salt, pepper and allspice and strew over the meat and place a piece of bacon on each piece of meat
3) Roll up with the bacon outside, and fix with a tooth pick [translator’s note: these are now known, formally, as “Legless Birds”]
4) Mix flour, salt and pepper and cover the meat/bacon rolls, and lightly sauté them in the butter or margarine.
5) Add the stock and let simmer for about 15 minutes
6) Add the sour cream and bring to a boil. If the liquid seems to thin – use a little maizena

To wit:

Now, if this is not suffient to get your blasted offspring to eat their supper I decline all responsibility. It is your own fault, dear reader.
